I guess they used Teen Titans Go! Beast Boy since he’s currently the best known, thanks to last year’s movie, and Cartoon Network showing it almost constantly. There are other versions they could have used. Comic Beast Boy, original Teen Titans cartoon Beast Boy, Young Justice cartoon Beast Boy. (Though not the live action Titans Beast Boy. The only thing green about him is his hair.)
It’s more of a conveience. I’ve only been on Disney cruise ships, and they handle most of your luggage for you. Not to mention access for wheelchairs.
Another, non-Tribune strip will be doing the same thing in a few weeks, but for reasons that have been explained. Amazing Spider-Man will start running old strips in about two weeks, and will last until a new creative team is in place. Obviously, this is due to the passing of the legendary Stan Lee.

Anyone who knows the original book knows that the Tin Man is no a machine. He was human (or as close to human as they come in Oz) who was in love with the servant girl of one of the Wicked Witches. Not wanting to lose her servant, she put a curse on his axe, so it would chop off different parts of his body. Every time that happened, he went to a tin smith for a replacement.
