But the escalating cost of higher education comes mainly from spending on administration and for services like health care. The amount of money spent on teaching has plunged since the 70s while more and more resources go to other expenses. Some professors at elite schools do make a lot but the vast majority of us are in the center of the middle class. Salaries for administrators - Deans and Presidents-have increased dramatically. Anyway—what Trudeau is drawing our attention to is a huge scam funded by taxes — on ethat puts tremendous financial burdens on people fighting to better their position in life. The for-profit ‘schools’ have very little to do with higher education and they should be shut down.
It’s merely a gag - why anyone would have thought that this is a long-term change escapes me. It’s been funny, too. Poking fun at his own strip really worked because the strip and its characters are so good-they have distinct personalities etc. and the logic of the narratives always reflects this sort of thing. More of this is fine by me.
He’s just having fun with the strip—the conceit of the joke is the humorous assumption that the characters are real, ‘work’ for the strip, actually have lives etc. - it’s offensive or lame-o only if you forget or don’t want to be reminded that this is a comic strip with made up of fictional characters. — lots of THAT in the comments I’ve read.Try tp remember that this is a comic strip even if it explores serious topics.
