Is Gannett a source (someone mentioned AP?) or a conglomerate buying up small papers? From reading this, it looks like Gannett has taken lessons from Larry Ellison – He killed off Sun after buying it; and threatened to do that to People Soft. The PS folks fought – even going to court and forcing him to state/sign that he just wanted to combine with them. So he did – but killed off the reason PS was so popular, that it could run on any OS/DB platform, so now it’s just Unix/Oracle.
And there was a time when new/unknown comics were put in all over a paper – as filler, maybe? Several that I followed when I read a paper were mixed in with the editorials (since there were already editorial cartoons), want ads, what ever the non news section was (where daily columnists were, like Dear Abby; or reporting on theater, tv, movies) and sometimes even the front section. Only place I don’t remember them is sports.

Exactly – if she complains about it, he’s going to keep it no matter what anyone else says. If she says nothing, or even says she likes it (and especially if his dad pretends to like it), then he’s likely to find it’s too much trouble.
