I’m officially sick of this storyline and appalled at the way everyone in Val and Phil’s lives are trying to force them into some sort of conventional relationship when they clearly aren’t interested in that. People’s relationships are their own damn business and trying to coerce people around you into “traditional” roles is a crappy way to treat anyone, especially someone you purport to care about.

You are an idiot. Men don’t get straight numbers in place of sizes because they’re so smart and powerful that they “won’t put up with it.” They get them because there is not a ginormous cultural apparatus telling men that the size of their pants is the most important thing about them.

And your economic theory is bullshit too. Everyone is indoctrinated from infancy that women must look at certain way, and in order to be successful, women need to buy things. Women have more clothing stores because of that pressure. Don’t sit there smugly lecturing half the population that we should just ignore the entirely of culture (which you uphold just as much as we do, btw) like somehow it’s our fault.

This idea that women have to look a certain way comes from our society. A society run almost entirely by men. You run the government, the businesses, the media. Don’t you dare try to tell me that women buying clothing so we can keep our jobs and protect ourselves are somehow at fault for the way the culture exploits us every damn day of our lives.

BobBlumenfeld, no she won’t. You can reference the name of an item without getting sued for trademark violation. And I seriously doubt that Hershey’s wants to file a lawsuit against a friggin cartoonist and get that kind of bad press.

So tom_wright and lightenup, you both want to destroy Medicare and Medicaid then? Which are, guess what? GOVERNMENT RUN SOCIALIZED HEALTH CARE IN THE US. And only two of the most successful programs the government has ever created, with high satisfaction ratings from most people who use them? Yeah, I thought not.The deficit exists because the government is not collecting enough taxes, because corporations and rich people got their taxes sliced under Bush. If we restored taxes to their Clinton-era levels (i.e. 12 years ago) most of the deficit would disappear:http://www.motherjones.com/files/images/blog_deficit_cbpp_may_2011.jpg

People go to work sick because we have no laws requiring paid sick days in the US. If you want your coworker to stay home when sick, vote for someone who will write a law to protect your coworker from losing their job for it.Oh and how many of us would risk losing several hundred dollars on airfare because we had the flu? Sheesh.

One of my favorite things about this strip is Luci’s expressions. She’s like a little Greek chorus. ;)
