   @Hobbes:

   Whilst that is interesting analysis, I wonder how much of this “tension” is age-related? What I mean is, I wonder if a child reading the comic has any problems in interpreting Hobbes’ sentience in the presence of non-Calvins or otherwise?

   I certainly have no problems with shifting between Hobbes’ twin life as a stuffed toy and an expert dry commentator, whether Mum/Dad/Susie/others are in the frame or not.

   There’s quite a famous example of the ubiquitous nature of maths (in this case, arithmetic) that goes like this:

   Prove that 2+1=3.

   I’ll leave that to you :)

   One thing that always bugs me about any knowledge is that it is all made up by humans to try and explain things. Maths isn’t the truth, it’s just a concept that has been developed over time, by many people, to try and help us along.

   E=mc2 only because Einstein says it does. For instance, if someone else defines the parameters differently, then Q=FG/6x, if you want it to. Not quite as catchy, though.

   Surely a recreation of Michaelangelo’s ceiling of the Sistine Chapel detail showing “Hand of God giving life to Adam”?

   Pretty funny anyway. The sort of thing I’d expect “The Far Side” to produce (except may be with Cows - the museum of Bovine Art, perhaps).

   I don’t think that Calvin’s Dad cannot answer it, he just doesn’t want to answer it with an obvious answer - it doesn’t help one bit to solve anything (unless the complete annihilation of the other side ends the conflict).

   As Calvin correctly surmises, adults just act like they know what they’re doing.

   Hobbes - philosophically, “cogito, ergo sum” cannot work, as you cannot use yourself to prove that you exist (nice try, Rene).

   However, WE know you exist, so that’s OK :)

   Whilst I believe it is important to use a day to focus on the special people who literally gave everything, we should spare some time EVERY day to be thankful.
