    Quick quiz: One presidential candidate in 2008 definitely was NOT born in the US. Which one?

    ….

    John McCain, who was born in the Canal Zone, which, at the time, was leased by the US. Congress passed a special bill declaring McCain a “natural-born citizen.”

    Ah, the US was supposed to INVADE Libya? That’s exactly what a unilateral intervention would have been. It would also have been an act of aggressive war, which is forbidden under international law and the UN Charter. Haven’t we learned our lesson, yet: Vietnam, Panama, Haiti, Lebanon, the Balkans, Afghanistan, Iraq?

    Humm, could Sarah-doll be talking about her namesake’s daughter–someone with no talent who insists upon demonstrating that fact on national TV?

    @ gayfatnakedvet:

    “Do high schools have ATM machines?”

    Think about that for a moment. “ATM” is an acronym for Automated Teller Machine, so “ATM machines” is “Automated Teller Machine machines.”

    Re: Nominations for Nobel Peace Prize

    Only members of national legislatures can really nominate someone for the Peace Prize. Lots of charlatans and scam artists have claimed that they were nominated, but weren’t.

    Also, it’s unlikely that the Nobel committee would even consider Assange as long as he’s under investigation for a crime unrelated to Wikileaks.

    Then, too, it’s very likely that the documents Wikileaks released about Iraq and Afghanistan will result in people being killed as informants or for cooperating with the US and NATO. It will be hard to tell, as there are many killings in both countries.

    No, “O” serial number didn’t refer to blood type but to “officer.” Enlisted serial numbers could begin with E or US (for draftees), if I recall correctly. That was a long time ago.

    @jimxoo67:

    It would be easy to pay for a lot of stuff it the rich would pay taxes at the rate that Ronald Reagan thought was appropriate. Just consider that many hedge fund managers pay less in income taxes on tens, even hundreds of millions than their secretaries do on $18/hr.

    The truth is that there may not have been a federal pay increase this next year, anyway, as inflation is pretty low. I am retired from the military. We’re not getting a cost-of-living adjustment in January for that very reason. (Inflation has to exceed some threshold before there’s a COLA and any COLA is always less than the increase in the CPI.)
