British Field Marshal Allenby set Middle East borders arbitrarily at the end of WWI. The borders were drawn without recognizing tribal conflicts within those artificial demarcations. There’s a scene in Lawrence of Arabia (still one of the great all-time movies that needs to be on everyone’s bucket list) after the Arab tribes have routed the Turkish occupation. The tribal leaders gather to form a government and the meeting turns into chaos and bitter grudges. Lawrence starts out as champion of the Arabs but ends up utterly disillusioned by the tribal rifts. He proclaims that, until the various factions learn to cooperate, they will always be a “little people” and he abandons their cause.

Come on, Steph – you can and should do better. At your best (which generally involves Larry and the other crocs), you’re hilarious. But you’ve been settling for lazy puns far too often. After many years, I still have fond memories of Zebra and the crocs facing off at the homeowner’s association. I won’t remember this strip by dinner time.

There have been presidents I didn’t like but this is the first election with an outcome that could kill me. Please, vote Blue. I don’t want to die.

Clay, you made Lindell look too human. He’s not nearly as nice as your caricature.

He was a first-rate talent in a third-rate paper. The totalitarian purges are just beginning.
