I have ten children. My television works, but is not connected to an antenna or cable, and hasn’t been for 15 years. My kids (except for one–and he’s marching to his own drummer) all read, some voraciously, others as needed. Mom reads. Literacy is an important thing in society. We’re not the sharpest cookies in the cookie jar, but we are literate.

Ian, WE invented the Internet. We wrote the comic. You play nice and get the joke or stay in your own little sphere.

I’m the dad of ten. I was also the barf-meister. Mom would take care of everything else, most of the time, but when we had a big mess, I always was the “get the sheets off the bed, clean up the most part of the mess, and get the child into the bath” person. Doing that made big points and got me out of doing many everyday ( I meant everynight) tasks.

My son-in-law comes back from Baghdad tomorrow from his second deployment. He will be a civilian soon, ready to enter the wild and wooley ways of today’s economy. To him, all my friends I served with during Jimmy Carter, and everyone that puts their lives on the line for others, I salute you. May a loving Heavenly Father bless you and keep you even after your service.
