Ordinary Basil. Louise viewed their restless night at the bottom of the mysterious, light-filled cavern as an adventure. Her curiosity overran her fear. Louise unraveled the cavern's first mystery at daybreak. "Look!" she shouted, pointing up at the holes in the desert floor. "The crystals absorb and store sunlight!" "And over there..." she added, in stunned amazement, "steps and archways!" Basil and Louise stood transfixed. Steps that had been carved into the cavern walls led to archways adorned with ornate, cryptic symbols. "It's the ruins of an ancient civilization!" Louise exclaimed breathlessly. Suddenly, a strange sound echoed in the distance. "What in the world," Louise asked, "is THAT?" The noise reminded Basil of home, of visits with his relatives on Maine's Goat Island... but why? Then it hit him! -- "Goats!" Basil announced in disbelief. "It's GOATS!" Basil and Louise gazed in astonishment as a line of mountain goats snaked nimbly along a narrow ledge. "Do you see what I see
