I really would rather that China dominate Asia for the next 50 years until their demographics implode. Yup, the Chinese should call the tune and all of Asia should dance the jig. I like their far and balanced approach to trade and politics. The Chinese are just as concerned as we are about labor and environmental concerns. Uh huh. Sure. Fight the TPP and see China’s influence grow unabated. After all, our American ways are so backwards. Why would we want the other Asian nations to follow our lead when they can follow China’s lead? This reminds me of the myopia that gripped the nation when isolationists pooh poohed the League of Nations. What is it about our species, anyway? Most of us never even try to understand the other fellow’s point of view, and I don’t mean religious stuff, I mean trying to understand other cultures and peoples. They are not all to be admired, of course, but they have their own views. We are not all to be admired either. But let’s lead, for goodness sakes, not with our military, but with our brains and our collaborative behaviors. Is any sort of treaty perfect for all sides? Of course not.
