The Republicans think the solution to the coming energy crisis is candles and whale oil lamps. When ships are forced back to sail, they’ll have the wind technology they want to “advance” to. China is trying new technology so they CAN cut back on the use of coal and fossil fuels, our “advanced” thinking however is stuck in the ditch the oil, coal, and other fossil fuel companies don’t want us to step out of . But then, with the subsidies they STILL get, they’re only thinking of the poor taxpayer. right. Why ARE “con-servatives” SO opposed to conservation???? Right, conserve profits.

Because they are not conservative; they are reactionary.

^Eryx, helped my grandmother make both candles and soap many years ago, don’t need petroleum, but somebody’s not going to be in the barn tomorrow.

All of these blame them and not me type people. Going green is great but not affordable. Companies can go broke going green. Then where does that leave unemployment?so it will take the cry babbies of the left to shut up and the greed of some of the others to work TOGETHER for a common good and make the right choice affordable. Remember the hoax of media buy in of global warming? The deleted emails etc from scientists we “trusted” before you complain about oil do some research and see really what is petro based while your drinking your bottled water

    Lol @ col mosby

I guess making the right choice affordable is to vague… If companies go broke… No money flow…no tax revenue… No ability to make better choices and a better world…liberals want heaven with no hell…world doesnt work that way sorry. Maybe someone will just mail you a check for doing nothing while we support the 80% who live off goverment funds

If your unemployed with limited funds to eat or feed your kids (saying your not on welfare and being a man and doing what you can to earn a buck) what are you going to spend your money on? A $5 light bulb or a .50 light bulb so you can feed your kids? Hard working people dont see a choice. However…. Keeping business in business you can afford the enviromental way. Duh

Flourescent bulbs are a tiny step. There is so much more that will be needed. Start by taxing everything that hurts the environment and see whether people start making better environmental choices then. the $5 vs $0.50 lightbulb is pathetic, when the $5 bulb lasts more than ten times as long as the $0.50 bulb and so costs less, actually.

Dogsniff, Have you ever smelled spermaceti? Granted when refined it’s used as a perfume base, but, oh, wait, uh, as you apparently DO roll in roadkill to live up to the name, it would be “perfume” straight from the whale’s head. Now a little fettucini with clam sauce, might join you.

Not if the libtards get their way. Petroleum is evil, remember. So is nuclear and coal. And since wind, solar and hydrogen are decades away from being commercially viable, whale oil is the only option…

How can you say that annamargeret? Everyone knows you just scrape off the forests, grasslands and topsoil, stick a drill in the ground and the supply of oil is unlimited! You can also then just pick up a big shovel and coal, shale, and tar sands are everywhere! Not only that but burning that “clean coal” has no byproducts at all, just like natural gas you only get water and oxygen! There IS NO LIMIT- so bring back Hummer H1s for everyone!!

If the whirly bulbs are a better buy, let the market decide.

Well, looks like the whirly’s are a better buy now that the U.S. plants shut down and China is now making them. U.S. citizens lost their jobs making light bulbs……….when will government learn?
