We get the government that we deserve. Doctors, lawyers, and engineers have to demonstrate their knowledge and earn a degree to work in their field. Likewise plumbers and electricians must do an internship and be certified as competent before they can work in their trade. We need a license to drive a car. But, do voters have to demonstrate that they understand the Constitution, the issues or even the candidates’ views?
Is choosing someone to lead just a popularity contest?
Is there a clause in the Constitution that demands that we cannot have informed voters or competent leaders?
