There are many reasons why Brett Kavanaugh is not fit to be a Supreme Court Justice, here’s the most obvious one. In a 2006 hearing, Senator Durbin asked Kavanaugh if he had ever discussed torture or interrogation tactics with Bush officials. Kavanaugh, under oath, replied “Senator, I was not involved and am not involved in the questions about the rules governing detention of combatants, and so I do not have any involvement with that.” This was a flat out lie. Under oath. The kind of thing people go to jail for. Because, in 2002, Kavanaugh and a group of top White House lawyers discussed how the Supreme Court would uphold the Bush administration’s decision to deny lawyers to American enemy combatants. This is on record, so it’s an open and shut case. We should not be discussing Kavanaugh’s eligibility to the Supreme Court. We should be wondering why he never did time. He is, as a person, no different than the so many shady Trump associates who are in legal trouble now. It’s not the Democrats who are getting beaten up Lisa, it’s the American justice system.

Once upon a time there was a bunch that said a justice could not be appointed so soon before an election. Now the very same bunch says………. and the comedy continues. Lower Slobovia looks better all the time.

Brett Kavanaugh is a liar and a thief.

btw – curiouser and curiouser how conservative(?) cartoonists insist on using sports metaphors to depict the GOP punching, dunking, scoring, etc. over the Democratic party which represents at least half of America. Is this all just a game to the Tяumpistas where out-of-shape WASPs can fantasize about physically dominating sports – and all the rest of us?

It is interesting that Nike is going one direction and the government and courts the exact opposite direction. Nike has done their marketing research which tells them the money and people are in the Kaepernick direction. The people seem to have no problem voting with their wallets but actually voting for representation, no. They will suffer the consequences but in the long run conservatives will lose.

@Cristobal de Morales – • Possibly NOMB, but do I understand that you are not an American citizen? We are still a somewhat free country, so I’m sure you are within ‘our’ rights to troll & bait and generally dish out the sort of international internet trash that got us into this mess in the first place.

Just stick the truth without all the b___ s___ and you’ll get a better sense of our American ideals. Without foreign interference we might even get there someday. Possibly it’s all of our business.

The question if the day is DID KAVANAUGH COMIT PURJURY? That is a pretty basic question. The reason the administration hasn’t released all of the documents is because those docume ts would make it easy to prove he did.

Y’know, when somebody who worked with Richard Nixon (and went to jail because of it) thinks Brett Kavanaugh is a bad egg, we have a serious problem.

Senator: Did you have any conversations about Mueller with anyone at the law firm representing Trump?

Kavanaugh: Uh… uh… uh… (pause) uh… uh… who? Who specifically are you referring to?

    .

Senator: You. I’m referring to you. Did you have such conversations:

Kavanaugh: Uh… uh… uh… uh… I’d have to know more about what you’re asking? Can you be more specific?

    .

    Senator: Specifically, yes or no?

Kavanaugh: It’s time for lunch. I’ll tell you tomorrow when I think up an answer.

Trumpublican party gets Kavanaugh. And then that’s it. The rollback begins. The cleanup begins. The marginalization of the toxic ‘republican party’ begins. It will take many years. And at every point Fox-Putin will obstruct, lie and deflect blame for everything. Lingering Trumperds must be relentlessly rebuked. They sided with America’s enemies to weaken America. They can never be allowed to forget.

Just in case not everyone is up to speed, the court is divided just like the rest of the country. The four liberal judges are boiler plate left wing and will always vote that way. The 4 conservative judges usually vote that way as well, although Justice Roberts had the chance to dump Obamacare and because he wasn’t comfortable using the court to do what politicians are supposed to do, missed the chance. The “swing” judge who Kavanaugh will replace was a conservative of sorts who would swing either way as he saw fit. Bottom Line? Of course Kavanaugh will probably be less likely to swing both ways but like Roberts might do so from time to time since conservatives really think the constitution is there to keep the government out of the way of private citizens. Its all politics and for the past 50 or so years is more so than what the framers hoped they were getting with an “impartial” court that could be depended upon to keep the politicians and POTUS in check with what the constitution laid out in writing. Not too many conservatives were happy with Ginsburg, Kagan, or Sotomayor but they didn’t have the votes to stop them. Neither does the Democrat Party now unless a Soros sponsored flash mob crashes the swearing in ceremony and they have to hold it elsewhere.

I really love when the RWNJs start publishing cartoons like this one. It tells me that Trump is losing…and losing badly.

They seem to think that if they keep telling everyone that they are winning that it will actually happen. But the fact is, when you have to keep claiming things over and over, it’s because they ain’t happening.

I’m not a fan of Brett Kavanaugh, but after some study of the Supreme Court and its history, I do offer a glimmer of hope. Once a justice is seated, since it’s an appointment for life, many justices split from “official party” doctrine. That’s their job, after all. Their job is to interpret the Constitution. It’s happened more than once. We often get better than we deserve, but in fairness, we elected all the parties entrusted to make the selection. The Court had no trouble reining in FDR during the Great Depression when they felt he was over-reaching. They had no problem telling (Republican) President Richard Nixon that even the president was not above the Rule of Law.

Look folks, Kavanaugh will be a fine judge. Just don’t have a uterus, concerns about the Imperial Presidency, or care about too much money in politics.

    Serious question.

Am I the only person here who reads SCOTUS opinions for fun? Really. When the mood strikes I will go to findlaw.com, pick a year at random and read at least the syllabus of each case. If it peaks my interest I will read the entire opinion.

Regardless of your political or ideological leanings I would suggest that everyone should dive in now and then. It makes for fascinating reading and often gives me a new perspective on the what, how and why of how our nation works.

    Give it a try. https://caselaw.findlaw.com/court/us-supreme-court

Our president mocks us with a dishonest nominee.

Our Senate betrays us with a ridiculous confirmation process.

Our conservative press shames us by refusing to acknowledge the hypocrisy.
