Unfortunately, most teachers and “some” politicians are at opposite ends of the altruism spectrum in this administration.

Yeah, what about all those hamsters, gerbils, chinchilla, guinea pigs, fish and other animals in classrooms all over the country? Home with teacher? With a TA or trusted kid?

Maybe more of the parents who used to complain about schools costing too much now see more value in them…

Last week, Denmark started limited, “gradual reopening” by allowing kids up to age 11 to return to school. Still with social distancing and a class-size limit of 10. After the first day, one 6-year-old was quoted as saying, “It was nice to see my friends again, but not nice that we couldn’t hug.”

Meanwhile, I read that some parents who believe it’s too soon have organized their resistance, saying they don’t want their children to be guinea pigs in an experiment to see whether such a return might be safe. At least for now, the return to school is not mandatory, and they’re keeping their children home.

If nothing else, this pandemic should make everyone realize that people who are in service positions, in some form or another are vastly underrated and underpaid. And it sure makes one think twice about having healthcare for all. People who had employer paid insurance are even losing that benefit. And food production. Forget that, nobody can do that either. Gads, what a mess the CEOs and big business and conservative/tea party government has put us in. All for the love of ‘personal freedom’ and amassing money. Money, money, money. What’s the point of having it, if you can’t do something really worthwhile with it? I know, I’m being a Pollyanna and I never aspired to be rich nor do I care about being so. So, the formerly richest country in the world is on its knees. Who will help her up? I wonder.

Do classrooms really still look like that? When I went back to a couple of my old elementaries they didn’t. The first one was re-designed and my 1st grade classroom is now the lunchroom. The second school is now the town library and the last one (now totally obliterated) had the desk arranged into groups and laid out at right angles to the way they were when I last was there (1961). Yes, we moved a lot.

A classroom should be a home. A place where kids can feel safe, and cared about. We don’t want institutions. We want learning environments.

Not all teachers are that committed I was working during summer time once and school was empty ‘Cept for the science lab where there was several live animals minus a large lizard that the teacher never came over to check upon, and the poor creature died horribly, to top it off the principal blamed me for that! Had I known what food the reptile ate I would’ve bought that food but how could I have known when the teacher wasn’t coming or not ?
