But the guy just wanted to ax him a question
(I couldn’t resist.)
What sould be said is watch out for religions, (any).
No, to make sense you sould have said, “Watch out for the enemies of religion.” After all, the homicidal monsters of the 20th century were ostentatiously irreligious. But then, it’s hardly surprising that a bigot would scorn history.
neither rain nor sleet nor snow nor bigots nor threats of death stay these brave humorists from their appointed rounds….transforming evil into wit - one of the highest callings.
The threat to “free speech” has far more often come from “religious fanatics/fundamentalists”- ask Galileo. Lions entertained Romans in “religious” festivals. The ancient Hebrews weren’t exactly a tolerant bunch. The Egyptians didn’t take kindly to those who didn’t follow their religious practices-
In a small corner of the world, eating the brains of your elders was also a “religious” practice, the transfer of prions didn’t due the youngsters a lot of good.
Even “pagan” religions didn’t practice a lot of tolerance, and it hasn’t changed.
Let us hope our cartoonists can continue to speak their minds and prod us to use ours, irregardless their message, exchange of thoughts in this medium is, or should be, a much more peaceful way to “blow off steam”.
