I used calculus after college in my first job as a Chemical Engineer.

My only use for integral calculus was in computing acreage of a large tract of land with a curved boundary. Though my little Timex Sinclair computer did the job in a tenth the time using the trapezoid rule. It divided the area under the curved boundary into 128 strips.

I used it once as a submarine mechanic when I had to correct the engineer that had never seen the inside of one.

I have once used the algebra I learned to find x, but never the calculus.

You use it every time you ride a plane, drive over a bridge, go through a tunnel.

Now that’s just silly. What kind of a loser wouldn’t use calculus every day???

As a Math teacher myself, I have no problem with Herb’s sentiment. In fact, I’m impressed he’s one of the <10% who made it all the way to Calculus. However, he doesn’t seem to have any complaints about Algebra, Geometry, or Statistics.
