I was a mechanic in the early 70s when cars got about 9 mpg on a good day and polluted the Hell out of the planet. The big 3 screamed at DC that they couldn’t do any better. The Japanese kicked their butts and all of a sudden they could do better. Safer cars, better mpg, less pollution all have to be forced upon us but the end result is better. I like getting 30 mpg and changing spark plugs at 100,000 miles instead of 9 mpg and every 10,000 miles.
