We don’t know that the problems are word problems, but if they were they might be around this level; they are above average students after all and an “average” problem like the one below isn’t below them.

A man walked a distance of 1 1/2 miles at 4 m.p.h. to a bus stop, caught a bus averaging 15 m.p.h. to an airport, traveled 200 miles by air at an average speed of 125 m.p.h. and finished his journey of six miles by taxi at an average speed of 24 m.p.h. If his journey took 2 1/2 hours in all, how long was he on the bus, and how far did he travel by bus?
