Great. So a Christian can say Merry Christmas without fear of getting sued or cancelled in America?

The original “War against Christmas” was by various renditions of the “Christian Church” for several reasons. One was that the date coincided with pagan celebrations of the winter solstice, or at least close enough. Another was that there is no biblical reason to put it in the winter, which also coincidentally goes against any logic for when the Romans would have had their subjects forced to travel. A good way to lose a few. And just to make it interesting, December 25 has been celebrated as the birthday of Mithra, son of Zoroaster, for a lot longer than Christianity has been around. Mithraism was a very popular religion in Rome about the time they “adopted” christianity, and fit their need for a belief system that stressed loyalty to the leader for religious reasons a lot better than did ‘christianity’. Unfortunately it was Persian, their main rival in the world at the time, so they coopted jesusism and converted it into what they needed by blending in a lot of the core attitudes of Mithraism.
