Bottom line: Products like this, if successful, spin off hundreds of extra jobs. I have a friend who’s a paid expert at some kind of complicated spread sheet program. She explained some of it to me once, and the conclusion I came to, as a professional programmer, was that I’d run the other direction if anybody ever wanted me to work with it. Meanwhile, she makes a decent living.

Which will be yet another work of fiction. What’s a little fiction between friends?

The ‘For Dummies’ book writers are my heros. They deserve a nobel prize of some sort just for their services to mankind. All hail ‘For Dummies’ writers! Thank you authors and all who serve them.

There is a Managing for Dummies book. Short of “Just be yourself.”, I can’t imagine what else it would need to say.

I once actually was in a group developing a software product that had a serious memory leak. They could not fix it. At a meeting, they asked me to use customer service to poll network administrators to see if they would accept a product that would blue screen servers after about 3 days unless they rebooted daily. I told them I would not even ask that question of a network administrator. Even asking the question would damage our credibility.

It would seem that PHB knows all about “Dummies” books. That seems to fit….

Yeah, the product not working is not a valid reason not to ship. Ask Microsoft.
