We now have all seen the videos of Border Patrol agents destroying water bottles left for immigrants (well, except for Faux “News” suckers where they don’t cover such things), and then the Border Patrol LIES and says that little SEVEN-year-old Jakelin Caal Maquin arrived in their custody already dehydrated (when she actually arrived in good health and had been given food and water while traveling).
The Border Patrol under Trump is complicit in crimes against humanity and violations of U.S. laws.
Jakelin was ethnic MAYAN. Her family speaks a native MAYAN dialect, not Spanish. Her family is part of the native ethnic population targeted by the movement of right-wing strongman José Efraín Ríos Montt, who was installed by Reagan over the objection of CIA warnings (Montt was later convicted of genocide).
The UNITED STATES does not have a moral right to deny asylum to those trying to escape violence and social chaos that WE CAUSED.
We did not interfere in Costa Rica, further south, and they are thriving. Costa Rica is what Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua woulda coulda shoulda been if Reagan (and earlier, Nixon, especially in Chile) had kept our big American nose out of support for dictators.
WE BROKE IT. We have no moral right to deny asylum to those fleeing that violence that WE CAUSED.
