He may have missed the substance of Lemont’s lament, but Clyde’s got the answer for the modern age. It’s not the one Lemont wanted, but it works in the larger picture.

There’s something existential about having your alter ego (?) read your own book…

I can’t imagine forgetting that.At least until dementia starts, then all bets are off.

    C’mon, Lemont, it’s simple:

    e^(ln(4852.8)-ln(297.492))

It’s more or less like 5000/300, or 50/3, so somewhere about 17. Which is close enough for most uses.

Tarredandfeathered said, about 23 hours ago@Olongapojoethe government reaction to armed groups of people is the same whether black, white or whatever. .No, it is NOT.Check out the reports of the White Motorcycle gangs who got into a public shootout in a Restaurant a while back..Not only were they treated with Kid Gloves, they got to Keep their Guns and not a Single One has been charged in the Deaths that occurred that day..The Official Report somehow found that No One Was to Blame.Apparently the dead guys committed Suicide by Someone Else’s Gun……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..@ Tarredandfeathered – Good God man do you ever check your data? Kid Gloves, the May 17, 2015 Waco Texas massacre resulted in 9 dead, 18 wounded, and 170 arrests. Of the shooting victims it is speculated that some were by police returning fire from the gangs. You referring to the gangs as White, is wrong also, read the reports and look at the mug shots. A lot of whites, good amount of latinos, and at least one black. Of the 170 arrests, they have all been released on BAIL and are awaiting trail. Again when a person has a agenda to push facts get in the way.

16.31237143 (to ten significant figures).First multiply top and bottom by one thousand to get rid of the decimal points.4,852,800 and 297,442.Then estimate 297,442 to be about 300,000.Divide that into just the first 6 digits of 4,852,800, which is to say 485,280..This is obviously more than once but less than twice, so write down a 1 in the tens place

Then subtract 297,442 from 485,280 to get 187838.Bring down the next digit, 0, to make it 1,878,380.

Divide this by 300,000 and you can instantly see the answer will be more than 6 but less than 7, so write down the 6, multiply 297,442 by 6 to get 1,784,652, subtract this from 1,878,380 to get 93728. .Bring down the next digit, 0, to get 937,280.Divide this by 300,000 to realize the answer is more than 3 but less than 4..Write down 3 and then multiply 297,442 by 3 to get 892,326.Subtract this from 937,280 to get 44954.Bring down the next digit, 0 again, to get 449,540.This divided by 300,000 is obviously more than one but less than two, so you would write down the 1, multiply 297,442 by 1 to get 297,442, subtract that from 449,540 to get whatever that is, bring down another zero, divide by 300.000 to figure about what the next digit will be, repeat until you come to your senses...(Note, Sir Isaac Newton once mentioned calculating such a number out to 100 significant figures which he realized was silly because the first numbers weren’t actually known beyond 5 significant figures, but he was bored. With that in mind, this answer should only be called 16.312 at the very worst.).Further note you were using a pencil and paper to write the numbers down for you, so you were already using tools. Clyde’s calculator is just a tool, just like a pencil but more gooder (betterer?)..I am also reminded of a scholar who calculated Pi out to a million places, by hand. His work impressed a generation before the first primitive computer was developed. It calculated it in an hour or so. It also discovered he made a mistake around the 500,000th digit so everything which followed was garbage. There is a fair chance I made such a mistake much sooner, not interested in checking..Power to the people, especially the Clyde people.
