Biographic Steve McGarry Tobey Maquire Born in Santa Monica, California, on June 27, 1975, Tobias Vincent Maguire began acting in his teens, appearing in TV commercials and playing small roles on such TV shows as "General Hospital," "Blossom," "Roseanne," "Jake and the Fatman" and "Eerie, Indiana." He met Leonardo DiCaprio when they both auditioned for the TV show "Parenthood," and they struck up a friendship that continues to this day. The lead went to Leo, although Tobey made a couple of guest appearances on the show. They worked together again in 1993's "This Boy's Life," a starring vehicle for DiCaprio. His career took off with 1997's "The Ice Storm," and he went on to star in "Pleasantville," "The Cider House Rules" and "Wonder Boys." The blockbuster release of the comic book adaptation "Spider-man" in 2002 rocketed Tobey to superstardom. Two "Spider-man" sequels kept him high on Hollywood's A-list and made him a wealthy man. He is also a highly skilled poker player and is rumored to have added millions to his fortune playing high-stakes games in Hollywood! In between his "Spider-man" commitments, he cemented his star status with the box office smash "Seabiscuit," a movie for which he was also executive producer, and a star turn opposite George Clooney in "The Good German." Tobey married jewelry designer Jennifer Meyer in 2007 and they now have two children together. His recent output has been sparse. Following 2009's "Brothers" - which earned him a golden Globe nomination - Tobey starred in the 2011 dark comedy "the Details." Two years on, he returns to the big screen in the hugely anticipated remake of "The Great Gatsby," a movie that teams Tobey with old friend Leonardo DiCaprio once again.
