Daniel Radcliffe In just a few short years, Harry Potter has become a pop culture phenomenon. Worldwide sales of the books have topped 250 million and have made the author the wealthiest woman in Britain. The first three movies in the series grossed almost $3 billion and turned teenager Daniel Radcliffe into a movie superstar. Daniel Jacob Radcliffe was born in London on July 23, 1989. He was intersted in acting from a very early age, although his experience was limited to playing a monkey in school play until he landed the title role in a 1999 BBC TV production of "David Copperfield" opposite Bob Hoskins and Maggie Smith. He made his movie debut in 2001's "The Tailor of Panama" before being cast in the role that would change his young life... boy wizard Harry Potter. The amazing success fo the series of books by author, J.K Rowling ensured that interest in the movies was intense. By the time "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" OR Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" as it was known in the United Kingdom and Canada) topped the box office charts worldwide on its release in late 2001. Thanks to the unprecedented media, coverage, Dan was already a huge star! Subsequent installments have made the Harry Potter series one of the most successful franchises in movie history.
