Thanks for the continuing history lessons cloaked in humor. It took me a while to recognize Harding and Taft. I looked up information about the dedication, and found it interesting that North-South political tensions allowed this to be built. Was Lincoln an accepted saintly figure at this time? It seems today there would be resistance and controversy to building such a grand Washington D.C. monument to any political figure. All I can think of is Kennedy’s “eternal flame,” and the Martin Luther King, Jr. statue.
