    @Uncle Joe: Well, yes. ANYONE who strays off message at all is a liberal lap dog. Independent thought is not a conservative value.

    @Random Nick

    I guess you’re trying to live up to your monicker, Random Nick. That statement seems to have no meaning at all, though I presume it was intended to be pejorative.
    If I am extolling the virtues of chocolate ice cream and I mention that vanilla is good too I am certainly straying off message. How does that make me a liberal lap dog?
    As liberal is presumably a political philosophy, and a political cartoonist can hardly operate without a political point of view or philosophy, what is the distinction you would make between a liberal and liberal “lap dog”? Or perhaps you are not making a distinction between the two.
    How is thought of any kind a value?
    Assuming that by “independent thought” you mean “independence of thought”, that may be considered a value, and it is certainly not, as you say, a conservative one, nor a liberal one either. Whoever said it was? In fact, to a doctrinaire ideologue of any kind, independence of thought is not tolerated: to such, independence IS “straying off message.”
    I would think that calling someone a liberal lap dog would mean that he has no opinions of his own that matter, and without any strong personal convictions he simply supports the party line that he is given, never daring to “stray off message” to express any personal views that might vary with that line. But it seems you merely want to call him a liberal and “lap dog” is thrown in for fun.

    So my best shot as translating your remark would be: “Well, yes. Anyone who shows independence of thought [ i.e. strays off a consistent ideological message ] at all is a liberal. Independence of thought is not a conservative value.” Now that makes sense, but I don’t think it is what you meant to say.

    That really needs to be the name of the entire beltway around Washington D.C.
    Both for the traffic, which can be HORRENDOUS around rush hour, and for what goes on INSIDE the beltway!

    @onguard

    So you’d rather have the entire Government in Chaos then actually moving forward?
    Un-Huh…explains a WHOLE LOT

    Right now the extremists want to “Stop” the workings of govt. Their way or no way. And so far they still put forth worthless budgets (Ryan Plan) for the third time. They want “small govt” for their business but highly intrusive big govt to police our sexual habits and reproduction.

    I’m not convinced they want to stop it. I think they just want to run it their way – that would be for themselves and their corporate cronies.

    Since McConnell said the Republican plan was to make sure Obama was a one term president, and Boehner walked away from the “Grand Bargain”, tell me again why the country is not moving forward? In spite of all that opposition, housing starts are up , unemployment is down, manufacturing is increasing and the stock market hit an all time high. I think i LIKE backward!

    I love it when someone tries to sound intelligent and only succeeds in showing everyone that they didn’t understand the point being made in the first place…

    They are working hard to overregulate many areas where small businesses have had a niche, too. When they say ‘small government’, they mean for themselves, but not for the rest of us, period.
