For those not priviledged to live in the Mid-Atlantic area, where Tasty-cakes got their start and reign supreme; Butterscotch Krimpets are sponge cakes covered in butterscotch frosting. They are so superior to Twinkies or any other “snack cake” that any comparison pales as the birthday candle pales before the sun. They are the creme de la creme, the cavier of snack cakes, One is heaven, the whole pack of three, nirvana.

Yes indeed. Displaced for a couple of years when I was a kid, when we’d come back to visit family here in PA we’d load up on butterscotch krimpets to take back with us.

I also remember someone on the Tonight Show back in the day telling a story of being stopped at the airport with a “suspicious” suitcase full of butterscotch krimpets. As I recall the krimpets didn’t make it past the unfortunate airport scrutiny as each cake was torn in two.

And in addition, some Krimpets are filled with wonderrrrrrful jelly…. or if you’re in juuuuust the right spot, you can find them with such wonderful “kreme” filling. Filling…… uh, excuse me, a minute, please……
