I am a Brit, a Royalist and all for festivity BUT it’s not my wedding and I resent the media telling me that I MUST be excited about it.
Just let them get on with their own lives and I’ll get on with mine.

I saw this in the magazine rack at my local grocery store= “ROYAL SCANDALS! Why Will and Kate’s marriage is DOOMED!” Jesus H. Christ, will the media SHUT UP already? They are salivating at the prospect of another big ratings bonanza! Here’s an idea; one day a year the Royal Family can have a field day with the paparazzi; Purdey shotguns versus Nikon cameras!

@ghostkeeper: I’d go more ‘how about a cannon versus Canons’? But leave the Canons alone! Including a new T2i, I have five, though two of them are spare parts at the moment.

The other day I saw Part 3 of the revived “Upstairs, Downstairs”. The dead-on depiction of Wallis Simpson in Part 2 was priceless, even if way too short. I hope they continue the series beyond the initial three parts.
(As for Royalists, I once read John Locke’s argument against hereditary royalty. It was true then and is true now. It doesn’t get much mention, but IMO the U.S. Constitution’s ban on titles, based on the Declaration’s principle that “all men are created equal”, is even more important than the separation of powers in defining America. Sorry Vicky, but if I were a Brit, I’d be a small-r republican.)

Cannons versus Canons- good, but cannons take so long to load, aim and fire.
As for Wallis Simpson and Edward VIII, here are jokes that were current at the time of Eddy’s abdication:
“Edward VIII went from First Admiral of the Royal Navy to third mate on an American tramp!”
“Esau gave up his birthright for a mess of pottage; Eddy did so for a tart!”

pschearer, I agree that (tho’ U/D is not up to the standards of the original, it was very pleasing) and I’d also like more episodes- although I was born 1937 and I know we had many issues to deal with in those years. I have not “saved the show to DVD, but enjoyed it!

I read somewhere that the real reason the British government didn’t want Wallis Simpson to marry the king was because she was too pro-German, which given what the men of Munich were about to do showed just what a big Nazi sympathizer she was.
