Do you watch those man-on-the-street interviews before and after elections? (Man: Ebola Terrorists comin' accross the border- that's what's got me torn up.) There's no nice way to put it; to a man (and woman), every last one of them comes off like a complete idiot. (Woman: The president wants to help us- those republicans won't let him!) So when people talk about how they should make it easier for Americans to vote, I have to ask: (Woman 2: It was different when I came. We weren't exactly legal. But now they need to wait their turn.) Why do they hate America so much? (Man 2: Drones & NSA & no jobs are just a cover. If you don't like the president, you're racist.)
In the early 1960s, I remember hearing my uncles talk on the back porch after family get-togethers. Having a few beers, they talked about their army days, the mistakes the generals made, refought WWII the right way. But they always ended up complaining about their two biggest fears: Communists and n*****s. We have come so far. Now, my co-workers in the shop end up talking about Liberals and Blacks. If you stay to listen long enough, though, they still refer to Obama as a n*****. So maybe not far enough.
