Just because you have the right to free speech doesn't mean you should ever use it. Man: Russia, China and Ecuador don't have a vibrant free press. Why is Edward Snowden going to those countries? Woman: Yeah! He should come here! To America! Where he can be a journalist when he gets out of prison! Man 2: Right! As long as he's not a socialist, libertarian. America-firster, anarchist or environmentalist he's in!
My folks sent me an L.A. Times while I was in ‘Nam. (They used it for wrapping a present.) There was an article about an attack in Viet Nam were I lost a number of friends. The “Times” story was the exact OPPOSITE of what happened, but that was when the press was covering up what was happening. Even though LBJ got us into THAT mess, it was indeed the “righties” who were convinced we were “right” in fighting communism (HAR! What a joke THAT was!), and they didn’t want to hear about casualties.
You can go back to William Randolph Hearst, and while there ARE “liberal” reporters and columnists, the control of our media has always on the ownership end, been conservative, to extremely conservative in the vast majority of markets.
