A study has found that climate change is causing higher corn prices. (Man 1: It's pretty obvious.) But right-wingers say there is no proof that higher corn prices exist, or, if they do, that they're caused by humans. (Man 2: Every 10,000 years or so, corn prices go up. Our 78-year lifespan happens to coincide with that 10,000 year spike. (Woman: Humans aren't important enough to affect corn prices.) (Man 2: Corn prices are big! People are small!) Apparently the author of the study sent some e-mails. (Man 2: Which we hacked. Look! He totally made fun of "Pray to God to lower corn prices day.")
False, on all counts. The term “global warming” specifically refers to the growth of the overall heat content of the earth’s atmosphere. The term “climate change” specifically refers to the result of global warming, which is the disruption of normal weather patterns leading to alteration of long-term climate trends. These terms have been in use, and in this fashion to refer to these specific concepts, since at least 1981.
And second, the only way in which climate models have been missing the mark over the last 10 years is by underestimating the speed and degree of change. This does not support your case.
