Beat the press. Welcome to a bizarre new era when the slightest error in a news story descredits the entire article. (Television: This article says we murdered, raped, and used 4-letter words. Where's your proof we used harsh language? Well?) (Man: Aie! Retract! Retract!) Not only do the perpetrators of evil deeds get off the hook. They convince people that reporting itself is the problem. (Man 2: We wouldn't know there was a losing war in Iraq- if the media would just shut up!) Smart defense attorneys hope to use similar tactics on behalf of their clients. (Man: For God's sake! You misspelled my clients name. How can he believe your article claiming he's a murderer?) (Woman: I retract! I resign as editor! He's innocent (sob)!!) A grateful nation thanks it's leaders for better living through sophistry! (Woman: If you report my speeding, you know, all my friends will think I'm cool.) (Man 3: Rip that up.)
