With Strange Brew, Deering -- famous for his biting humor and political savvy as chief editorial cartoonist for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette -- has an outlet for his creative sense of humor and quirky view of life.
"Being an editorial cartoonist today, you have to be tuned-in to pop culture as well as politics -- but there are some limits to what you can do," Deering says "In Strange Brew, everything’s fair game. I get to cut loose and draw anything."

He is much loved in Maine, even though he portrays plenty of them to be wacko.

Almost all of Stephen King’s books are based in Maine. To the publisher, it’s like hearing a broken record.

Ah. Thanks! I was wondering if it was a deeper reference to a specific King novel.

When you live up here and read the local papers, you’ll see that he doesn’t necessarily write fiction. There’s plenty of wierdnes to go around in this state…

I stopped reading King after “It” – except for some of the shorter stuff.

Oh, and his books lately (according to my son and my spouse, who both still read his stuff once in a while) have been very poorly edited, anymore. King doesn’t care (doesn’t need to), and publisher is cutting back on expenses.

I went to college in Maine. I was in an airport bookstore years ago and overheard two women looking at a copy of “Salem’s Lot.” I couldn’t help but say Ït’s about vampires near where I went to college." Funny, they quickly put down the book and left the store.

Magnify the ‘toon:

“NI NXT MOOK MILL ME NET N MAINE!”
It’s like a nyah-nyah-nyah-nyah-nyah from a kid who’s heard it before.

King would be more recognizable with his front teeth showing, but still, worth a small snort.
SNrk.

I’m another who lost interest in him right around the time “It”, although I did like “Gerald’s Game” and “Misery”. By any chance, was that around the same time he gave up cocaine?
