I know 2 people who were 90% bald by the time they graduated high school. One tried to cover with the world’s worst comb over. 3 strands of hair basically.
Depending on where you lived that might not have been that bad a bill. Remember, there wasn’t the free long distance that is normal today, and there were places you could live that were rural enough that EVERYONE outside your small town was long distance.
Makes perfect sense to me. There’s plenty of stupid things I’ve done because it was MY CHOICE to do them, as opposed to doing something stupid because someone forced me to.
Actually, the House of Lords Act of 1999 ended in a compromise. They reduced the number of hereditary peers from 750 down to 92. The 92 were elected by their peers, and at set ratios: 42 Conservatives, 28 Crossbenchers, three Lib Dems, two Labour and 17 others. When one leaves they are replaced by vote and from the same party (so if a conservative leaves a conservative replaces them).
Admittedly, I can’t imagine the amount of drugs it would take for the peers to have voted Zonker one of the 92.
