    From the speech:

We are all in this together. We must put politics aside, stop the partisanship, and unify together as one nation and one family. As history has proven time and time again, Americans always rise to the challenge and overcome adversity.

The Left suppresses the speech of those who disagree. They bully opposing points of view on Twitter and college campuses. They organize mobs to boycott businesses because an owner dares to have an opinion at odds with its orthodoxy. One must not wear a red baseball cap because it “triggers” the Left. Due process must be suspended if a man is accused by a woman because all women must be believed. Except maybe Ellen DeGeneres, who is flayed because she dares to say she can disagree with George W. Bush and still be his friend.

As a rule, those on the Left do not denounce the policies of the Right. The Left denounces the people who support those policies. Wear a red cap — even one that bears no inscription — you’re a racist. Believe the country’s borders should be enforced, you’re a racist. Suggest that only citizens should be permitted to vote, well, you know…

Winning arguments require no emotional outbursts or histrionics. They need no civil disobedience to score points and do not rely on ad hominem attacks to prevail. They win with logic and data.

That’s the difference between the Left and the Right and it’s an important one.

    Set the politics aside.

No one anywhere should have his or her life derailed based upon an allegation — no matter when that allegation is made and regardless of how many other people the alleged victim made the same allegation to. Courts require evidence and presume a defendant’s innocence. Certainly a nominee to the Supreme Court deserves the same.

Suppose Ms. Ford said that a man put a gun in her face and robbed her 35 years ago? Should whoever she names be arrested and incarcerated based only upon her word?

Incredibly, some in this string would convict Mr. Kavanaugh based upon the fact that an unrelated man has been proven guilty of similar charges in another state. Would anyone here want his or her fate determined by those standards? Is this really where we are in America now? And if so, why not simply torture Mr. Kavanaugh until he signs a written confession?

Odd that you think the cartoon “demeans” Cortez by noting that she previously worked as a bartender. All I see are two donkeys that want to drown their sorrows over a poor election showing. How is anyone demeaned? Why do you specify that Cortez is a woman? Do you think female public officials should be treated differently from their male counterparts? Isn’t that …um…sexist?

    She’s also a racist and a sexist.

Durak: At the risk of emptying sand into the gears of your well-oiled mistaken beliefs, I invite you to consider the following:

The top 1 percent of all taxpayers (taxpayers with AGIs of $465,626 and above) earned 20.58 percent of all AGI in 2014, but paid 39.48 percent of all federal income taxes. In 2014, the top 1 percent of taxpayers accounted for more income taxes paid than the bottom 90 percent combined.Feb 1, 2017

So you’re right — the wealthiest aren’t paying their fair share. They’re paying far more.

Duran: You’ve just made the case for a flat tax. If everyone paid, say, 10% of their gross income each year, someone earning only $25,000 would owe $2,500 in taxes and someone earning $250,000 would owe ten times that amount. And that is by using precisely the logic that you inadvertently laid out in your little traffic ticket harrumph. Ready for that flat tax? I didn’t think so…
