   Sometimes I swear Obama is just trying to see how many broken promises and adopted Bush policies he can get away with and still have the adoration of his cult followers. It’s quite an amazing phenomenon.

   The logical contortions and fantastic theories his cult followers have to devise to continue to justify their adoration of Obama in the face of such blatant and continued betrayal is also amazing.

   It’s also very sad.

   It’s very simple.

   Bush is a war criminal, and he committed acts and instituted policies that violate domestic law, including the U.S. Constitution.

   Obama is doing NOTHING to hold Bush to account, and he is continuing some of Bush’s policies. He is even continuing some of Bush’s policies and even some of his obstructionist legal tactics against the people in court.

   For many Obama supporters, the idea that Obama shares not one scintilla of similarity with Bush is an article of faith, impregnable even by facts. To suggest otherwise is shocking and offensive to them.

   One year to close Gitmo IS foot-dragging and delaying.

   Most of the people in Gitmo were turned in for the ransom we offered. We have absolutely NOTHING on most of them. If we can spend billions a month on these criminal wars, we can shut down Gitmo in a week. It just takes the political will to do it.

   Why is one year acceptable to you? Is it because at heart you don’t care about the civil rights of others? You’d be OK spending one more year on top of five or six or seven years in a cage in Gitmo for nothing?

   It’s easy to be patient when it’s not YOUR butt out there in the cage, isn’t it?

   I suppose I could say that, by your tone, Humphries, I believe that you’ll love Obama in the future regardless of what he does. But that’s an empty, reflexive, defensive kind of thing to say. It doesn’t say or mean much.

   If Obama were to do the right thing in the future, I’d love him. But the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior, so I believe there’s good reason to expect more “disdaining” in the future.

    Wait for them to take office? Why? At this moment they’re sitting around doing nothing waiting for January 20?

    I’m with Ted. I don’t disdain Obama for the fun of it. Obama has been hard at work before January 20, and has already done quite a bit to deserve disdain.
