As an Eagle Scout, I’d like to know what kind of Cub Scout den uses bread crumbs? Why not notch an X in a tree?
Bibbler said, 11 months ago
Did that scout leader never read Hansel and Gretel?!

Granted it’s farfetched…most comics are. Ya hafta focus in on Poncho, who has that “cat who ate the canary” look, or, in this case, “dog who ate the bread crumbs” look.

Tubers?

This comic doesn’t make any sense. They have a map! Bread crumbs should be irrelevant. The real problem is that they’re all lousy orienteers.
Not very well thought through on Gilligan’s part.

@Craig Linder
And what good is a map when you can’t read it?

@Bibbler
Maybe Hansel & Regretel.

Agreed. But then why bring it with you in the first place if you’re going to use bread crumbs?

You all are missing the point. The comic isn’t about the lost boyscouts. It is about Poncho. All other characters are peripheral to playing on Poncho.

You’re correct that Poncho is the focus, but even so, if the joke about him is going to be funny it has to make some sense even in the silly world of the comic. Even with the suspension of disbelief that goes with this and most comics, fundamental flaws are still possible. This is one of those cases for me.

Not quite so illogical. Look, they’re in a forest. Remember, ya can’t see the forest for the trees. A map doesn’t do much good if you can’t see the lay of the land—-landmarks, etc.
It’s funny, yes it is. All the humans are somewhat clueless. So using bread crumbs is consistent. (The dogs are pretty clueless, too).

Oh, and having no orienting equipment is very clueless.
BUT IT’S A COMIC!!!!!!!

Hansel used white pebbles that glowed in the moonlight the first time their parents took them to the forest to ‘get lost’. The second time he was unable to get stones in time so tried bits from the small piece of bread mother gave them and of course the birds ate the bread. I wish people would remember that Hansel and Gretel were quite clever.

Very clever Paul — a nice balance between reality and just plain stupidity. It’s created a little controversy and much discussion so you’ve certainly earned your pay!:)
