    Hey, there’s Thorax - on Edda’s right.

Man, those fly legs have gotta itch. Yuck!

HAH! You folks kept asking for him, so there he is!
    .
Altho, I can’t imagine actually getting away with this sort of “nigh nude” public walking in “real life.” Somebody would say something.
    .
Except, maybe, in San Francisco …

Brooke is seeeeeek. Seeek seeek seeeeek I tell you…

In San Fran or Ashland,OR there would be a hundred propositions from the locals.

The fly probably would draw more attention in N.Y.

I caught Edda and Seth, but missed Thorax until someone pointed him out.
Someone in my little town would notice a naked man with a fly covering his “nasty”(loved that).

If anyone knows of a strip that attracts more comments than Pib, please let me know - I would want to read it.

    Ah hah!

Thorax is not seen in the original sketch!

Doubtlessly he was added just before publication, at the urging of countless commentators!

Homeworker, and anyone else interested in finding comics with lots of comments –

Might I suggest you just check each comic, one at a time, until you find something? Then report back here with your results!

gocomics.com doesn’t publish every online comic, but they do have quite a lot.

I’ve only been reading this strip for about a year. Who is Edda and Seth?

  14. RipFord

RipFord said, about 1 year ago

I remember a college psychology class in which we watched a film of an experiment where they had Uschi Digard walk naked down a busy city street to see how people would react and the vast majority of people seemed totally oblivious to the presence of a beautiful naked woman. Too much information overload from everything else that was going on around them at the time.

  15. RipFord

Edda and Seth are from Brooke’s other comic, 9 Chickweed Lane.

  16. Nugget0

Nugget0 said, about 1 year ago

gbruce: Brooke has another marvelous comic that I follow called 9 Chickweed Lane. Seth, Edda and Thorax are featured. They are marvelously rich characters who also joined Pib and Dru for the Midsummer Night’s Dream. Visit Brooke’s blog for a link to 9 Chickweed Lane (see under MORE on the right of your screen)

I love both comics and found Pibgorn because of my fanatic following of 9 Chickweed Lane…..

BTW, Thorax may have inserted himself into the strip after Brooke drew it. He has that space time continuum thing going for him and he did recently meet with Monty at 9 Chickweed Lane.

  17. corwin_argentus

corwin_argentus said, about 1 year ago

May Monty be praised. Or at least left alone on the weekends (he doesn’t like to take his work home with him).

I wondered how long it would be ‘til someone caught that Goeffrey had a fly in the appropriate location, whether it was open or closed. Brooke just kind of innocently slipped that very bad pun out there visually, and this is the first sideways notice I’ve seen of that groaner.

    Hee. Fly.

Actually, we’ve given it a lot of play. Also, Brooke clued us in to another strip he did very early in his career, ‘Wahoo Terminal’ in which even more fun was had with the fly - two guys had them up around necktie area and one had his placed as Geoff’s is (although he was clothed). The other two told him his fly was down.

I tend to agree that Thorax decided to show up all on his own. I’m not at all sure Brooke has any control over him.

I’m always intrigued when Brooke does these crossover cameos. Of course, Thorax figured pretty heavily in a storyline sometime back. Which reminds me. I miss the hair fairy. And for those following his 9 Chickweed Lane series (highly recommended!)—she seldom gets zinged like she got zinged today!

I can imagine Thorax was pittering around his shed when Brooke did the sketch, and teleported into the final strip when he tripped over the quantum anomaly. But how did Geoff and Luciano get from the field into the city so fast?

    Nugget0: fanatic following of 9 Chickweed Lane…

Don’t I know it! I’m in the same boat here, still trying to figgure out of Brooke himself was once a dancer (who else has such obsession with stretched feet and classical lines?) And those quantum annomalies sure can come in handy…
I just don’t know what to do, because I missed a few days of 9 CWL over my summer. Do you think anyone else hoards the pictures in their harddrives as I do?

  31. UncaAlby

Now I wonder just where Geoff is heading off to.

Does he live nearby? How’s he going to get in if the door is locked?

Is he expecting to meander into a nearby men’s clothing store, try on a few things, then when it comes down to buying, claim, “Uh, I must’ve left my wallet in my other pants …”

I was also going to mention that it looks like Juliette just in front of Edda. Not only that, but isn’t that Amos (looking downward) just to the left of Geoff?

I love Pibgorn and 9CWL! The characters are fascinating, intelligent, witty, and slightly strange! Ok, in Thorax’s case, more than slightly strange….

    Hi GogoloChick -
Yes, I love Wahoo Terminal (and particularly chuckled at those particular panels - I’ve been a Chickweed/Pibgorn/Brooke fan quite some time, and literally have the coffee cup and the tea shirt (and both books).

I only recently joined and started commenting here, though I’ve read this whole story line with rapt attention. So it makes sense I missed when folks were talking about Luciano’s living interpretation of a barn door.

    Brooke is a funny man.

RipFord, I love that you know from Uschi Digard. She is a classic!

  38. Fairportfan

Fairportfan said, about 1 year ago

    Emlyn says:

“I think the opening encounter was in Central Park, NYC. You could see the surrounding highrise buildings in the background when Pib got transmuted”

Geoff was swimming unobserved in a pond/lake in Central Park?

And that high grain he was crouching among when Luciano found him doesn’t seem likely to be in the park, either.

  39. The Old Wolf

The Old WolfGenius_badge said, about 1 year ago

@zorchon: Brooke has mentioned in his history that while studying at Julliard, he spent a lot of his free time drawing the ballet dancers. He obviously learned a lot about the art as well, not just how to draw a perfect form.

Oh, snap. Edda really got stung today…

Uschi Digard is an old friend. A terrific chess player, but ballet is not her forte.

  43. GorgoloChick

GorgoloChickGenius_badge said, about 1 year ago

Say, guys. I just went and took a look, and at the start there aren’t buildings around the pond where Geoff is going in to swim, that’s the pixilation that gets Pib a few strips later. Anyway, she carried him waaaaaay up in the air after she grabbed him, so he could have ended up anywhere after she disappeared and Dru rescued him, if not his swim trunks.

  44. elfinelvin

elfinelvinGenius_badge said, about 1 year ago

Oh Dru got the swim trunks alright.

  45. GorgoloChick

GorgoloChickGenius_badge said, about 1 year ago

elfinelvin - Actually, Dru caught the falling Geoff by his swim trunks, and when he fell out of them she tossed them aside, saying “Oh, it just doesn’t get better than this” while looking offscreen at Geoff.

The Friday sillies are upon me. Is that spired building in the top right corner of the last frame the same building, I wonder, that Dru excited after she felt the burst of pure evil from Lena?

  47. ABiggie

ABiggie said, about 1 year ago

Is it possible that Lena and the evil queen are in the same situation as Dru and Pib (sharing a body)? I was wondering that this morning, because otherwise, it is just creepy for an 8-year-old to be doing those things.

ABiggie wrote: I was wondering that this morning, because otherwise, it is just creepy for an 8-year-old to be doing those things.

You’re right - it is creepy, which a number of us have mentioned before. While Scott Adams of Dilbert fame often tries to be crude on purpose, just to see what he can slip past his editors, Brooke seems motivated by nothing other than the exigencies of his story. Still, he does seem to push the envelope pretty hard.

My experience of him is that he’s a good man with a wild, untamed and brilliantly creative mind. From statements made through his characters to comments posted on his blog, he seems to care deeply about the state of the world. My guess is that he would be the last one to condone child abuse in any form. As a result, I anticipate that the dénouement of this strip will leave Lena unscarred. Notice, for example, how Drusilla was prepared to give Roger the ride of his young life, but the plot cleverly preserved his virtue and even explained why.

And yes, I agree with the above comment regarding the discussions here. Certainly a light-year ahead of the typical forum where “OMG ROFL this strip r0xx0rs111” and “STFU n00b” are about all you see…
