He didn’t even give the tree a chance to eat the kite.

That string looks like the signature of the new Sec. of the Treasury.

It doesn’t look like he was even near the tree.

The kite is so afrai of the tree that it is clinging to him.

Why does Charlie Brown have a mad face while he is tangled in the kite?

He’s angry with the cruel Fates that declare he shall never fly a kite without anguish and defeat.

I think a Section Eight is in Charlie Brown’s future.

Charlie’s reference to the Army draft coincides with the original running of this strip – circa 1966. I suspect our favorite little round-headed kid would not do so well in the Armed Forces…let’s all hope there is never another draft – or another full engagement war, for that matter…

If memory serves, this was the inspiration strip for Death Ray Comics’ “Weapon Brown”.

Then you are forgetting the present Depression Draft that has been forcing people to go into the armed forces just to have freedom from economic woes and lack of food.

I’m not sure that Charlie Brown wouldn’t do well in the Armed Forces. If he’s a version of his creator, then he might be okay. Charles Schulz did serve in the US Army during World War II and rose to the lofty rank of Staff Sergeant. Of course he did state that on the one occasion when he might have fired his .50 caliber machine gun in anger… he forgot to load it.
