Hi GoComics readers,
Many of you have expressed curiosity and even concern about the comic hiatus for Pat Oliphant's drawings. We wanted to share that Pat is doing well, in good health, but simply on vacation. As soon as when we have an update on the date of his next drawing, we'll share the news here and via social media.
We have wonderful readers. This is an example of the impact that an artist and their work can have on lives and we will continue to value that relationship with you. Thank you.

I didn’t say if i was for or against it. Just that some people were likely to take off on it - people on both sides.

Yeah, Pat’s going to hear about it on this one.

I hope you are proud of yourself for drawing a cartoon that will unquestionably be reprinted on anti-semitic, radical islamic and white supremacist websites for years to come. The best that can be said about it is that it is inflammatory and biassed. the truth is, it is just plain antisemitic.

Given all the blatantly racist depictions of Arabs done by Oliphant over the years, I suppose this just shows him to be an equal-opportunity bigot?

God gave the Israel all of the land…including Gaza.

etocme … and you know the inside story?

As a political cartoon, it’s excellent. It meets all the requirements for creating symbols and communicating a message. It’s one more nail of delegitimization. Of course, we’ll ignore the Hammas goal of eliminating Israel; we’ll just expect Israel to fade quietly into history. Bpaulwhite is right: this will become a new classic of anti-Semitism cartooning and will be joyfully reproduced. Why couldn’t the Germans have been more efficient?

Packer, you made a good point regarding the elements of a political cartoon. However, this one seems to be overkill with so-called “symbolism”. I don’t get many of the aspects of what Oliphant is trying to depict, except for showing Israel as a monstrous country…oh, and let’s not forget the religious aspect with the Star of David…country/religion…Hmmm…who took out the World Trade Center and innocent people in Mumbai and so on and so on….Must be a country that eludes me…or is it fanatical zealots that love to be incited by a “cartoon” like this one. Sorry, I don’t get it!

I, on the other hand, mourn that Ehud Barak is allying himself with Bibi Netanyahu. I think Tzipi Livni would be better for Israel and the world.

Binyamin Netanyahu: “If the Arabs put down their weapons today there would be no more violence. If the Israelis put down their weapons today there would be no more Israel. Think about it…”
Have you looked a map?

BPW – The names Israel and Gaza themselves are inflammatory.
The way you put it, there’s no difference between being anti-Semitic and anti-Israeli? I certainly have no issues with the Jews but Israeli policies bug the cr@p out of me.

Perhaps the pendulum of American opinion is now swinging against the Israeli far right. I was and am sympathetic with Israel in that no country can or should tolerate being rocketed on a daily basis. However, the pressure cooker that is Gaza is entirely the result of Israel’s past polices. The charge of Antisemitism and the shared collective guilt for the Holocaust just does not have the same relevance to me anymore.

Perhaps the reason he has no head is because it was chopped off by one of those harmless radical groups for one of their videos. (Remember Daniel Pearl? He worked for a newspaper too!) When these cuddly underdogs (all 500,000,000 of them) are finished with the Jews they will be coming after America next.
