    What is Welsh Rarebit?

    @davidf42

    Also called Welsh Rabbit, it is cheese, ale, some herbs, cooked together and served on rye bread. Sometimes a slice of tomato is on the bread.

    Thank you for your kind answer. Of course I did Google it and learned something I did not know. I appreciate being able to maintain an intelligent conversation here on GoComics with kind people such as yourself.

    We might be seeing more of Welsh Rarebit if Windsor McCay’s “dreams of the rarebit fiend” show up in this collection.

    Anybody watch 1900 House when it came on PBS? The husband actually had to shave himself with a straight-edge razor, like the guy in the upper-left.

    @YatInExile

    I remember the show,but not the shave. If it was anything like the guy in this comic,that had to hurt!

    Except for the shaving one, these pretty much can all apply today.

    Yes, Rikkie, McCay’s Welsh Rarebit comics will appear as we get into the early 1900s.

    @Night-Gaunt49

    We have a Welsh rabbit. His name is Idris, he’s a sable and he comes from a farm near Llandrindod Wells. Honestly!

    Actually I know a couple of boot blacks. Also shoe shine locations at work. I have even seen an itinerant shoe shine person at work.
