    Whoever they choose to be Pope, he doesn’t HAVE to be one of the Cardinals. Got to be Catholic though, obviously.

    There are legends of a Pope Joan .. a woman who disguised herself as a man and became pope… but apparently there’s no evidence to support that.
    Interesting notion, though…

    I was about to say the same – and why shouldn’t there be a female pope? Perhaps then there will be less children born in Catholic countries. Women are not baby factories (and boys are not substitutes).

    I can just see Stephen Fry in papal regalia, with his papal mobile phone as he twitters, tweets or whatever it’s called. I get the impression he’d love the attention. (That’s not an insult, just an opinion.)
