The accident was caused by high speed. Why the train was going so fast is still unknown. What is clear is that the anti-railroad right wing is willing to support highways (sort of), airports (sort of), and ports and river transportation (sort of). But for some incredible reason, the right wing doesn’t like passenger railroads, even in the crowded Boston to Washington corridor. Maybe the reason is that the over representation of having two senators each from, say Idaho, and Montana, prevents intelligent transportation policies for, say, NY and NJ whose population is overwhelmingly larger. The large areas of the country outside of the megalopolises has far less need for passenger rail. Heck, how busy is the complex Boise subway system compared to the New York MTA, or Philly’s SEPTA? But mainly I think, this is just more antigovernment ideological nonsense from the Grover Norquist fan base. Thanks guys.
