Colbert covered Romney’s pledge to abolish FEMA…
“Right, we should make disaster relief the sole responsibility of the states. Who better to respond to what’s going on inside its own borders than the state whose infrastructure has just been swept out to sea?”

You are, of course, ignoring the fact that with that very small bump came the news that the actual number of people employed INCREASED. The increase in unemployment, according to the numbers, is because more people feel encouraged to get back into the job market.

Another triumph of irrelevance to the topic!

(Besides, the jobs report is good news: the number of employed people went up; the percentage of “unemployed” ticked up because more people resumed looking for work and thus are now being counted as unemployed.)

We now return you to the previously scheduled topic of the cartoon.

Doing your best to hurt America to get back in power, aren’t you. Imagine if the GOP hadn’t blocked the jobs bill, but acted as they would have under a Republican president. We would definitely have had much better job growth, and there might be a fraction of a chance I’d consider voting for a reasonable Republican candidate in the future. At this point — they’re all evil because the good ones that are left all support the evil ones in their economic vandalism.

Oh, you mean that the unemployment rate is now a little closer to the TRUE unemployment rate that the Democratics refuse to talk about.

There are three types of lies: Lies, Damned Lies, and Statistics. Unemployment figures have been manipulated for decades. We never have true knowledge, but we can get an idea of the neighborhood.

I think we can all agree that more people being employed is a good thing. Or can we?

Wait – you mean a STORM is proof of climate change? Then what do calm, pleasant, normal seasons prove? Oh, right! The weather proves whatever you want to believe. Talk about deniers!

Quite right. Which is why we KNOW AGW is occurring — it has more evidence than nearly any scientific fact save evolution!
More accurate would be to say that YOUR disbelief does not constitute…well, anything.

I believe it was the 70’s and 80’s that scientific belief was that the earth was cooling and we were heading toward another ice age!

Science does not deal in belief but in theories which are generated by observations and carefully refined data.

True, but when you throw in a shrinking arctic ice cap, two ‘Hundred year storms’ within 22 years of one another, habitats of a large number of plants and animals inching Northward, many record highs, few record lows, AND an unprecedented rate of increase in the average temperature, you have a pretty good clue that something unusual is happening.

Of course, your belief isn’t unusual. After all, millions of people believe in the inerrant Bible. Of course, they can’t agree on which books actually make up that inerrant bible.

No, storms are just weather. But the frequency of storms, and the magnitude and severity indicate a change in the overall CLIMATE. The overwhelming evidence shows that the planet is getting warmer faster than it would if left to itself.

TONY PRESSER said, about 4 years ago

“As far as global warming, scientific belief does not constitute scientific evidence”

No, scientific belief is “based on evidence”—otherwise, you have to take the word “scientific” out of the sentence.
