When I was hungry, gave you gave me food: I was thirsty, you gave me drink: Naked and you clothed me…

If you’ve actually been in a church for a while, you know that others are primarily religious targets, but can also be viewed as a source of funds. Plus, they conveniently provide a group to whom you can feel superior.

A “source of funds”? Many houses of worship operate on a shoe-string budget – with a knot in the middle. Electric bills to be paid, mortgages – all the same bills you have at home, plus a salary for the pastor/rabbi. No matter how dedicated the clergy may be, food needs to be put on the table and shoes and clothing on bodies.

I don’t feel superior to anybody – just extremely grateful for what I do have and willing to share with those who do not.

Some people give by taking, others take by giving. There will always be people that need to be provided for, such as children, elderly, infirmed etc… There are other people that take joy from giving of themselves.

Takers and Moochers, as Ayn Rand would say. That’s the bad of altruism.

Go ahead and give. God will deal with the fakers.

Such churches get to ride free off the tax payer concerning property taxes which can get quite expensive.

Yes, but we pay business rates for the phone. Even hospitals used to get a break. Don’t know if they still do – it’s been fifty years since I worked for Ma Bell.
