    So, Heart hasn’t discovered Harry Potter or Twilight?(Granted, the latter is more of a teen novel, I believe.)

    Back in the ’50s my dad let us read Mad Magazine…
    After he read it cover to cover to make sure it was suitable for us kids.

    @Bruno Zeigerts

    Two days ago Heart listed Kristen Stewart as an important celebrity as a result of her role in the Twilight series … so she’s quite familiar with the films if not the novels.

    I bought the ‘Harry Potter’ trilogy for my daughter, a few weeks before Xmas. I began reading the first volume, and finished it just in time for Xmas. I gave her the first volume and explained whilst she was reading that, I’d be reading the second. When she finished the first, I’d pass her the second, etc. My understanding daughter agreed, bless her.

    Heart also dressed up as Satine from Moulin Rouge one year, and that is not a kid’s movie!! Mom can’t really complain about graphic novels. My library’s had them for years in the youth, teen and adult sections.

    Just in case somebody is wondering… this is a real graphic novel that, like, really exists:

    I have some from the 1970s. The thing is there is a lot of stuff in them that shows things have not changed much in the following years.

    So I was walking through the store today and saw “Smile” – ended up buying it (mainly because I saw it here) – actually a good book, going to give it to my 13 year to have.

    What Heart’s Mom doesn’t seem to realize is that wholesome reading isn’t just relegated to the non graphic novels both mediums can have innapropriate content

    If she’s really that worried about what Heart’s reading she should be reading the non-graphic novels along with the graphic ones.

    He means that at one time (when he bought the books) there were only three of them….

    I wasn’t allowed to go to the library alone after one incident. I brought home a book of topless women at the age of 11. The overworked checkout girl got read the riot act for letting that happen. The girl’s response was priceless, “Well I’m not the boy’s mother.” My foster mother’s was even more so, “Well neither am I!”, and she huffed out stage right without any further explanation.
