The pun isn’t worth the female mosquitoes nor the heat.

I have never eaten a s’more. Until I spent a few weeks in the US earlier this year, and saw an advert for them, I had never even heard of s’mores. Now I know what they are, I must say they sound revolting.

It helps if you’re standing around a camp fire on a cool evening.

S’mores are no worse than any other sugar-loaded confection. Here’s a link to an article on some gourmet ways to prepare them. Some versions don’t look too bad. The bacon s’more cookies are making me reconsider.

The whole s’more thing supposedly started in the Girl Scouts about a century ago, but even though I was in the Cub and Boy Scouts, I only remember toasting marshmallows or cooking hot dogs over the fire. I don’t remember hearing of s’mores at the time. I think the whole thing caught on with the rest of the public, when a graham cracker company started printing the recipe on their boxes and there was a commercial featuring them (I think sometime in the mid-60s). Or maybe the commercial was from Kraft (marshmallows) or Hershey’s (chocolate). At the time, I remember Kraft having extended commercials where they showed recipes for their products.

Pun control? Andy advocates all kinds of control. She is the control-freakiest character in the comics, even more so than Lucy in “Peanuts”.

If you can get a plain graham cracker these days and not one of the ‘flavored’ one, s’mores are great. I had them at church camp and Girl Scout camp back in the 50s and 60s. Marshmallow – burnt and runny. Yum!

I remember them back in the 50’s when I was in Girl Scouts. The treat was actually called an “ore”. Don’t ask me why. But people would always ask, " Do you want some ores?" Hence the name, s’mores.
