Good morning, Vagabonds.
Yesterday was a really crowded day for me. For the past few days I had a hankering for chocolate icecream – I don’t know why since I always prefer vanilla. So, I joined the senior citizen busride to the neighborhood Publix suopermarket. There were about 10 people on the bus, all of them needing assistance from the driver except for myself. IOn the way home, people got off at various stops and the driver actually had to to take their packages to the doors of their apartments. I had made sure to buy my icecream and sherbert last so it wouldn’t melt, but by the time I got home it was SOFT, the way I like it. I really dug into it and enjoyed it.
Then, an hour later 2 friends of mine and me went to the annual Chanukah lighting ceremony at North Miami City Hall. The latkas they served were really good and I took 2 with me to the Advent party in case pork would be served.
David, is December 12 Advent? I have a Mexican friend who is Catholic and makes a party every year ayt this time. Since she’s Mexican, there are a lot of prayers to nuestra Virgen de Guadalupe. Then a mariachi band came and performed. it was good to see all my Latino friends there.
I came home after 11 PM so tired.but happy

Hello, Village People. ;-)
.
Welcome to the freezing zone David. We haven’t hit sub zero yet.
.
Yes, Dec 12 is about half way through Advent. There are four Sundays in Advent but, not necessarily four weeks.
.
Hi all you late comers. Everybody have a nice day.

@Arye
In the Catholic church, advent is the start of the liturgical year and it starts the fourth Sunday before christmas.

Good morning Vagabonds. I like dkram’s name for us: “Village People”.
Woodworker, the Protestant church is the same as the Catholic church for Advent. This year it started on December 2, but in other years it starts as early as November 27, depending on what day of the week Christmas falls.
Arye, I love the way you can make an adventure out of something as mundane as grocery shopping. You have a wonderful attitude and zest for life. Keep it up!
Slim, one of the best parts of a holiday meal is the leftovers. Especially a Honey-baked Ham (sorry, Arye). Best sandwiches ever!

Good Morning Vagabonds,
Arye, December 12th is the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe. She appeared before an Aztec Indian somewhere in the 1500’s, near what is now Mexico City. If you go onto Google, you can see the “story”. When I was in grade school, we would always have special Mexican sweets and a party.
Slim…….can’t wait for those leftovers! I was at a party yesterday, when one of the ladies brought the most delicious ham and cheese stuffed rolls. It was so delicious. She left before I could get the recipe, but I will certainly try.
