    Good morning, everybody…

Thank you for your birthday wishes yesterday. It was a quiet day. A friend is recovering from a hospital stay, and we’re having a celebratory lunch this Wednesday, all being well.

It’s “National Sandwich Day,” today. Sandwiches are so personal I can’t imagine posting a recipe. (Note to all the national/international hamburger chains:

Hamburgers are not sandwiches; they’re hamburgers!!!)

It’s also “National Fig Week,” though, and here’s a sauce for frozen desserts. Shhh….it’s got apricot brandy in it!

    Fig Nut Brandy Sauce

1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
    1/4 cup water
    1/2 cup coarsely chopped figs
1/2 cups coarsely chopped nutmeats (Dry: sultana raisins, chopped apple, shucked sunflower seeds?)
1/4 to 1/3 cup apricot brandy (You know which way I’m leaning. :-) )

Combine brown sugar and water in saucepan.
    Bring to a boil.
Stir in figs and nuts; cook over medium heat 3 to 4 minutes.
    Remove from heat.
    Stir in brandy.
Serve at once over vanilla ice cream.

On this day in 1933 the late John Barry was born.

    Who was he?

    Do you recognize this?

Alexi be careful when you say National FHIG Week.
Part of your recipe is too close to reality.
    BS and water
Bring to boil (easy to make her hot under the collar)
Stir up FHIG until she’s a nut
    Add alcohol
    Wake in morning with ice.

It looks like dominoes on the table in that last panel. I guess they were up all night playing?

Shika, back in the day of my mom’s childhood, they all drank coffee. It was what they could afford, is my understanding.

Akenta, yes I set my “collect” back, laid awake about an hour in the middle of the night, so I guess my inner clock adjusted itself anyway! :-(

Lets celebrate Culture Day in Japan. According to cleo my celebration lasts all week, LOL!

    @Alexikakos

So the nutmeats are raisins, sunflowers, and apples? That works! And I won’t forget the apricot brandy, LOL!

So John Barry wrote the 007 theme? I always liked that theme music.
