Had a beautiful drive to Mt. Baker today, then tried to find a restaurant open for lunch and ran into five closed eateries before we finally ended up at
a brew pub in town. The only thing I can figure is that they were closed between summer and ski season. But we and others enjoyed the fall colors. What, we don’t deserve to eat too!

good morning and happy thursday locos. It’s still Eid-al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) and JFri is still hanging out with us :-).
I’ll be on vacation starting tomorrow (full moon at 7:38 ET – with an eclipse at 7:50). I’ll see you all next week!

Full moon? No wonder I couldn’t sleep. May as well be full daylight for me the way a full moon keeps me awake.
Good thing there’s an eclipse. I’ll get some sleep! ;-)
(I hope I can see the eclipse, but I doubt it will be visible from my apt.)

    Good morning, everybody…

There’s a simple, very simple, pumpkin seed roasting recipe at “Speed Bump,” today.

Today is “National Pasta Day,” so I decided to post a sauce instead of a complete dish. Pasta, after all, is exactly the same stuff no matter what its shape.

From:” THE ALITALIA BOOK OF AUTHENTIC ITALIAN COOKING”
    by: Barbara Stacy
    Publisher: THOMAS Y. CROWELL COMPANY
    New York Established 1834

    Tomato Sauce (Salsa Di Pomodoro)

The longer the ingredients blend, the more flavor for your tomato sauce. It tastes best of all if you make it the day before and reheat it at serving time.

    2 cloves garlic, minced
    3 tablespoons olive oil
    2 tablespoons chopped parsley
    2 1/2 cups (20-ounce can) Italian tomatoes
    2 tablespoons tomato paste
    Salt
    Pepper
    1 teaspoon orégano

Sauté the garlic in olive oil for 2 minutes, stirring frequently.
Add all ingredients and simmer, covered, for 1 hour, stirring from time to time.
Force the sauce through a sieve and serve over spaghetti or other pasta.
    Serves 4.

On this day in 1814 the Great London Beer Flood occurred. At first glance it may seem a humourous event, but it was not.

One beer vat at the Meux and Company Brewery in St. Giles Parish suffered catastrophic failure and the pressure of that released beer burst the rest of the brewery’s vats in a domino effect. The total amount of beer released was over 323,000 Imperial gallons. That’s a cube of beer just over 37 feet on a side.

The flood of beer destroyed two homes, and took out a wall of a pub. The total number of lives lost was either 8 or 9. The teenage barmaid in the pub was crushed under the wall, and the others were drowned in their basements as those basements filled with beer too quickly to escape.

Surprisingly no liability on behalf of the brewery was found. The flood was deemed an “Act of God,” and the brewery continued in operation until 1922.

While researching this I discovered some sources which say this event took place on October 16, but as I found it for today, that’s what I’m using. On either date it is a tragedy.

    Have a good vacation, Akenta!

    Good afternoon all!

In 25 years I will be turning exactly 50. Not sure I would be trusting cars even then.

JFri, congrats to your hockey team! Also for some reason, I thought you were talking about a car part not a fishing pole so I was confused when I didn’t recognize the model haha
